Thompson Terminal Point Technique
Dr. Jason Fennema, DC, often uses the Thompson Technique in his Chicago chiropractic practice at Ravenswood Health and Wellness Center. This chiropractic method of treatment, also known as the Chicago Thompson Drop Table Technique and the Chicago Thompson Terminal Point Technique, is based on the work done by Dr. J. Clay Thompson and Dr. Romer Derifield during the mid-20th century. The system consists, first, of a thorough analysis, and then of a directed treatment phase.
Dr. Fennema uses the analytical portion of the system to better adjust the actual treatment to each patient’s specific spinal condition. The Derifield-Thompson Leg-Check Analysis begins the first stage of Thompson Technique at Ravenswood Health and Wellness Center. Because an imbalance in the body can affect its core, each patient’s extremities, hips, and spine are thoroughly checked for subluxations; this analysis pinpoints problems in each section of the body, revealing potentially harmful chiropractic conditions, including leg-length inequality. Normal range of motion for the extremities and spine can be restored through the Chicago Thompson Terminal Point Technique, which can eliminate the subluxations that keep joints from functioning properly.
Fast, low-impact thrusts enable the type of adjustment that the Thompson Technique requires, as does its special table. Thompson found that normal, stationary tables were not conducive to this type of adjustments. Because of this, he developed a table especially for the Chicago Thompson Drop Table Technique that is supported by a hydraulic system. The hydraulics drop the table slightly when the doctor applies force during an adjustment – but only an inch or so – which keeps the body secure. Dr. Fennema can, therefore, apply high-velocity thrusts without causing the patient undue pain, as the patient briefly moves with the motion of the adjustment.
Dr. Fennema regularly employs the Chicago Thompson Terminal Point Technique in his chiropractic practice, as do many other chiropractors from across the world. The technique has proven, time and again, to be quite effective in ameliorating the pain associated with an array of problems experienced by patients.
